40s belgium brown corduroy double breasted work jacket deadstock

HISTORY

A 1940s Belgian-made double-breasted work jacket made from wide-wale brown corduroy. This workwear was made for foresters, lumberjacks, and hunters in Europe before and after World War II.

DETAIL

The double-breasted corduroy design is captivating. The sleeves are switched to black cotton twill, a functional design typical of workwear, designed to ensure freedom of movement around the sleeves.

What is particularly noteworthy is that this particular jacket has no collar. Many double-breasted jackets of the same style have collars, but this particular jacket shows no traces of remade stitching at the collar, suggesting it is a garment that has been made to this design since the beginning. As it is workwear, it is unlikely to have been completely custom-made, and it is thought to have been produced in small batches by a local manufacturer or tailor with a no-collar design, based on the Belgian double-breasted style, or to have been made in a manner similar to semi-custom order.

The silhouette is boxy with a relaxed fit. The double button position is slightly narrow, so even when worn open in the front, the body doesn't flap around too much, creating a comfortable balance. The back has a Marcandal belt, which can be used to tighten the waist slightly to create a more sleek silhouette. CONDITION
