40s german kriegsmarine U-boat leather jacket

HISTORY

This leather jacket was issued to the crew of the German Navy's Kriegsmarine's "U-Boot" submarine unit, known as the most powerful during World War II (1939-1945). Designed for extreme cold and harsh environments, the thick leather jacket offered excellent warmth and durability. Worn by many crew members, including captains, engineers, and deckhands, it was created as a practical item for working outside the ship and for protection from the cold. The leather version, which emphasizes workability and durability, is extremely rare after the war, making it an especially rare vintage item.

DETAIL

The material is cowhide, yet it has a soft, supple texture. Its simple design, free of unnecessary embellishments, is nonetheless iconic, featuring a stand-up collar. The original model featured military metal buttons, but the buttons on this particular model were replaced later. While retaining its vintage flair, it is also more easily incorporated into everyday styling. The placket structure, pocket placement, and wool lining are all simple yet robust, evoking the distinctive German military vibe. The color is a deep dark brown, creating a richness that cannot be replicated in modern leatherwear.

CONDITION

There are some minor scuffs and scratches throughout the bag, but these are typical of aged leather and there are no tears or major damage that would interfere with wear. We have posted photos to show the condition as clearly as possible, so please check them out. After receiving the bag, it was washed and oiled, so there is no smell or stiff wrinkles typical of used clothing, and it is in perfect condition for comfortable wear.
