This is a black chambray atelier coat from the 1950s-60s. We have two deadstock items in stock. The "atelier coat" was worn by artists and art school students at the time to protect their clothes from getting dirty. The material is black chambray cotton with a distinctive marbled texture.
Because of its appearance, it is sometimes called "sesame salt" or "salt and pepper."
Although it is workwear, it is not simply made; the front is wide so that it can fit the human body, it has two sleeves, and it requires more steps to make than modern workwear.
Therefore, it is made three-dimensionally and has a beautiful appearance. Unlike American workwear, which is mass-produced, this coat seems to have been made with an emphasis on design, and you can feel French style in every part of it.
The belt is sewn onto the back of the coat, but it is basted on top of the coat. You can remove the belt by removing the sewing thread. In addition to the chest pocket, there are deep side pockets designed to hold scissors and brushes. There is also a stencil on the inside, which is a great detail for those who like stencils.
There are two items with different size balances. Please check the actual measurements. If you have any questions about the size, please feel free to contact us. This is a soft cotton twill fabric.
