HISTORY

  • This 1950s cotton piqué hunting jacket is made by LE MONT ST MICHEL. This iconic French workwear brand tailored this hunting jacket to meet the post-war demand for outdoor activities. Originally, hunting was a hobby enjoyed by royalty and the wealthy. However, with the expansion of outdoor activities after the war, hunting became a daily pastime for the general public, supporting their livelihood and daily enjoyment. While the brand is known for its moleskin, cotton piqué hunting jackets are rare and hard to find.

DETAIL

  • The fabric is textured cotton pique. There is a hunting pocket on the back for storing captured game, and the lining is made of soft cotton. Most hunting jackets from this era are brown or gray with four pockets, but this is one of the few with three pockets. It's even harder to find in white pique. All the buttons are animal-print buttons.

CONDITION

  • Although there is damage overall, the original owner has repaired it, with careful hand-darning applied to the collar, right arm and pockets, and the left side has been firmly repaired with a separate piece of fabric, likely due to stress caused by holding a gun. One of the charms of this particular item is being able to imagine its history. The buttons originally had animal-themed buttons, but they have been replaced with buttons of a different design. One side of the hunting pocket on the back is missing a button. The size is not visible, but it is a good size, about 50cm large.
