60s GERMAN ARMY BLUMENTARN CAMOUFLAGE SNIPER JACKET

HISTORY

This is a sniper jacket manufactured in the early 1960s for the East German National People's Army (NVA). Blumentarn is a camouflage pattern used by the National People's Army (NVA) of the former East Germany (DDR, German Democratic Republic). As its nickname, which means "flower" (Blume) in German, suggests, it features a pattern of petal-like spots. Its official name is "Flächentarnmuster" (surface camouflage pattern). Irregular blue-green, olive, and brown spots are scattered across a gray background. While it was discontinued shortly after its release for visibility and diplomatic reasons, its beauty and rarity have made it a highly sought-after model among collectors.

DETAIL

The ink stamp on the inside waistband indicates that this jacket was made in 1961. The hood is large enough to be worn over a helmet and features a net. This netting is used to camouflage the face when wearing a sniper mask. Sizes range from 1 to 5, and the jacket is designed to be larger as it is worn over a variety of gear. The smallest size, 1, is equivalent to a medium, and is recommended for those around 170cm tall. It features a three-dimensional military design, including a patch designed for prolonged prone firing and hexagonal elbow patches.

CONDITION

As you can see from the photos, this item has faded randomly. Deadstock items have a unique gas coating that gives them a unique texture, but this item has the coating removed and can be worn comfortably. There are no visible tears in the fabric, some cracks in the buttons, and the change button on the flap pocket on the left sleeve is missing. Size 1 is equivalent to a medium, making it a comfortable fit for most people.
