H I S T O R Y

    These are trousers from the East German National People's Army (NVA) manufactured in the early 1960s. Blumentarn is one of the camouflage patterns adopted by the National People's Army (NVA) of former East Germany (DDR = German Democratic Republic) from 1956 to 1967. As the common name, meaning "flower" (Blume) in German, suggests, it features a speckled pattern that spreads out like flower petals. Its official name is "M58 Flächentarnpattern (camouflage pattern)." It consists of irregularly scattered blue-green, olive, and brown colors. It was abolished in a short period due to visibility and diplomatic reasons.

D E T A I L

    Most Blumentarn camouflage pants are made of stiff cotton material, similar to canvas. However, this particular pair uses a softer cotton twill fabric. There is also no oily feel characteristic of anti-gas coating. Given these differences in material and specifications, this pair seems to be positioned somewhat differently from typical Blumentarn camouflage pants. While not definitive, it is thought to be a test sample or a piece manufactured due to differences in the units supplied.

    In terms of details, it features knee patches on the knees, and the side cargo pockets are inset for a neat appearance rather than external.

    In contrast, thick cotton sniper pants, confirmed as a different type, feature a heavy material with anti-gas coating and reinforcement details, in addition to the fabric difference. Compared to such items, this product, while still Blumentarn camouflage, offers superior comfort and can be worn all year round.

C O N D I T I O N

    Fade, dirt, and repair marks due to age are visible. The internal manufacturing stamp is not visible. Also, belt loops are not included. While it's possible to cinch a belt tightly over them, the size is equivalent to an M, making it easy for many people to wear.
