This microdot sniper smock was adopted by the former Yugoslav People's Army in the 1970s and 80s. Shortly after World War II, Yugoslavia, under President Tito, broke away from the Soviet bloc and chose a "non-aligned" stance, refusing to join the Western bloc. At that time, strengthening defenses in the mountainous regions bordering Romania and Albania became the top priority, and units were formed primarily from partisan veterans who were intimately familiar with the harsh mountain terrain. For them, improved camouflage performance, which conventional camouflage uniforms lacked, was urgently needed, and there was a demand for the development of new patterns that would be effective in both long and short ranges. It was against this backdrop that the microdot camouflage, adopted in the 1970s, was born. To adapt to diverse terrains and climates, such as the Karst plateau and winter snowfields, densely scattered dots were used to visually break up the human silhouette, creating an effect that blurred outlines regardless of distance. Furthermore, its reversible design allowed it to adapt to two environments, forest and snowy terrain, with a single garment, achieving high versatility that made it an indispensable piece of equipment for special forces and snipers.

While its unique camouflage pattern is eye-catching, it stands apart from traditional camouflage designs. Perhaps it's a highly fashionable camouflage in today's context. The fabric used is a thin cotton poplin, making it a light and breathable oversmock. Originally designed to be worn over combat uniforms, it has a relaxed, oversized silhouette. It's a hooded smock type, with slits on the chest and waist to access internal gear, and slits on the hood to prevent external sounds from escaping. The body features various functional and aesthetic details, such as bush straps for attaching vegetation from the surroundings to blend in with nature, reflecting the strong emphasis on practicality unique to military wear of that era.
