This is a black moleskin jacket made by Le Mont Saint Michel between the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Le Mont St. Michel, arguably the premier brand of French vintage workwear, has a long history dating back to 1913, when it was founded in Pontorson, near the Mont Saint-Michel monastery in Normandy, France. Starting out as a small family-run workshop specializing in workwear, the brand gained widespread popularity among local artisans and farmers in the 1920s and 1930s. Through aggressive advertising to expand its business, the brand grew into a leading brand in western France. Le Mont Saint Michel's workwear emphasizes durability and functionality, and adheres to its own unique quality standards, carefully selecting pockets, stitching, rivets, and other elements depending on the intended use, for farm work, mining, hunting, and school wear. This is one of the few pieces produced during the transitional period, featuring the V-pocket and center back seam seen in pre-1940s jeans, as well as a printed tag typical of the 1950s. The slight red paint stains on the hem are a personal touch, as they were worn by real workers at the time. The intricate stitching, unique to France, demonstrates the high level of tailoring techniques.
