This is a linen version of the French military M35 motorcycle coat from the 1940s.
This overcoat was worn by motorcycle troops at the time to protect against the cold and wind. Many of these coats were made mainly from cotton (linen), but this particular one is a rare all-linen type. The heavy French linen fabric gives it a drape that cotton doesn't have, and the softness that makes it flutter in the wind.
This coat was worn over military wear at the time, and has a beautiful A-line silhouette and long length. It's great to just throw it on, but we also recommend styling it with the collar up and the belt tied.
It comes with a chin strap. There is almost no rust on the buttons and fasteners, and no tears. It has been well-worn, with the distinctive creases of French linen, giving it a very appealing look. There are creases on the inside of the elbows, like those seen in denim, giving it an indescribable vintage quality. The way the color fades and puckering is different from cotton, making this a beautiful coat.
The stamp on the back has the number 2 written on it. There are various opinions on the size, motorcycle unit number, etc., so please check the actual size. The sleeves are long enough to reach my wrists, and the length is not too long, just below the knee, so it has a good balance of size and usability. I think it is the golden size that suits most Japanese people around 170 cm tall. The width is loose and roomy, so you can wear a thick knit underneath, making it a piece that will be useful from autumn to winter. A French masterpiece. Why not take this opportunity?
